We are Avon United Methodist Church

Who We Are

In Greater Hendricks County as it is in Heaven

We are a congregation of people mostly from Avon, communities surrounding Avon in Hendricks County, as well as residence of the west side of Indianapolis. We seek to faithfully follow Jesus Christ together in ways that is inclusive, compassionate, and transformative. We believe that all people are made in the image of God and that diversity is a gift from our Creator. As a progressive Christian church that values many of the traditions of our faith, we seek to engage with the world around us, striving for God’s kingdom come and will done in Greater Hendricks County and throughout the world (Matthew 6:10). You are invited to join us on this journey of following Jesus into a life of love for God, self, and neighbors (Matthew 22:26-40).

Our Mission Statement

Our mission is to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. We make disciples of Christ by proclaiming the good news of God’s grace and by exemplifying Jesus’ command to love God, self, and neighbor, thus seeking the fulfillment of God’s reign and realm in the world” (The Book of Discipline of the UMC, p. 121). Jesus articulated our mission in Matthew 28:19-20 and Matthew 22:37-39.

Methodism

John Wesley, one of the founders of Methodism in the 1700s, described Methodism in this way,

Methodism…is the old religion, the religion of the Bible, the religion of the primitive Church, the religion of the Church of England. This old religion…is no other than love, the love of God and all mankind.

Forgiveness

Repeatedly forgive others as we have been forgiven by God.

Christ-like Love
