The Your Faith Journey daily devotional for this week includes scripture from the apostle Paul’s letter, 1 Corinthians. You’re encouraged to read part of Psalm 24 to begin your devotional time each day to prepare your heart and mind to be centered in the Lord.

 

Read Psalm 24 as a way to point your heart and mind towards seeking the Lord. “God of Jacob” is a way of saying “the God of the Israelites.” Jacob wrestled with God and his name was changed to Israel (Genesis 32:22-32). The families of Jacob’s twelve sons

eventually became the twelve tribes of Israel. Over generations, the family tribes became a nation of people known as the Israelites.

Read 1 Corinthians 1:10-19. Which word, phrase, or verse is God using to speak to you today from what you read?

 

Pray for the unity of our congregation, the Methodist denomination, and Christians throughout the world.

 

 

Read Psalm 24:1-6 as preparation for encountering the Lord.

 

Read 1 Corinthians 6:12-20. Which word, phrase, or verse is God using to speak to you today from what you read?

 

Pray knowing that your body is “a temple of the Holy Spirit” (1 Corinthians 19). Invite the Spirit of God to guide you so that you honor the Lord with your body.

 

 

Read Psalm 24:1-6 as someone who has been and continues to be blessed by the Lord.

 

Read 1 Corinthians 10:23-11:1. How can you eat, drink, or do whatever you do today for the glory of God?

 

Pray the Lord’s prayer as you have memorized it, or using Jesus’ words from Matthew 6:9-13.

 

 

Read Psalm 24:1-6 knowing that everything is the Lord’s, including you, and all that you have.

 

Read 1 Corinthians 12. Which spiritual gift(s) has the Lord given you through the presence of the Holy Spirit within you? How are you using your gift as part of the body of Christ? How are you using your Spiritual gift to bless others?

 

Pray for our sisters and brothers in Christ, the Christians throughout the world, including members of the body here in Avon.

Read 1 Corinthians 13. In his first letter, the apostle John wrote, “God is love” (1 John 4:16). As Paul describes love in 1 Corinthians 13, replace the word “love” with “God.”

What does this chapter from Paul’s letter reveal about the God of love? Knowing that Paul was writing this letter to a church dealing with division, what does this chapter reveal about how we should treat one another within the church even when we don’t see eye to eye?

 

Pray in response to the God of love. Pray for the Lord to enable us to live “the most excellent way” of love described in 1 Corinthians 13 within our church family.

Read 1 Corinthians 15. Which word, phrase, or verse is God using to speak to you today from what you read?

 

Pray in response to what you read and in response to the one who described himself as “the resurrection and the life,” Jesus, our Savior and Lord (John 11:25).

 

You are strongly encouraged to observe the sabbath either today or tomorrow as a time to worship the Lord, rest, reflect, and enjoy recreation. To learn more about the sabbath, read Exodus 20:8-11, Exodus 31:13, Leviticus 16:31, Leviticus 23:3, and Deuteronomy 5:12-15. The questions below can be used to help with some time of reflection:

 

Where did you see, hear, or experience love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, or self-control this past week? That was God and the fruit of the Holy Spirit at work in your life or within the lives of others (Galatians 5:22-23a).

 

Who needs to hear about your ‘God moment’ sometime in the coming days?
